Frank Kelly & Sons Garage Ltd. has been a cornerstone of automotive service in Southern Ontario for over six decades, rooted in family tradition and a commitment to excellence in heavy-duty truck repair.

The story begins in 1958 when Frank Kelly founded the original shop in Stratford, Ontario, driven by his passion for mechanics and serving the local community. Recognizing the growing demand for specialized services, Frank expanded the business in 1963, relocating to its current site on Highway #8 in Mitchell. This move marked the start of significant growth, with two major facility additions in the 1960s and 1970s to accommodate increasing operations. During this period, the garage also phased out its gas pumps to focus more intently on repair, maintenance and towing expertise.

In the early 1970s, Frank welcomed his sons, Doug and Wayne Kelly, into the business, officially forming Frank Kelly & Sons Garage and Kelly’s Towing. This family collaboration fueled further expansion, including large-scale hauling and towing services across Southern Ontario, establishing the garage as a reliable partner for commercial fleets and individual operators alike.

Tragedy struck in 2014 with the sudden passing of Doug Kelly at age 60. As the sole remaining owner, Wayne streamlined operations to ensure continuity while upholding the high standards set by his father. Under Wayne's leadership, the garage continued to thrive, specializing in servicing all diesel trucks and trailers, advanced diagnostics, parts supply, and distribution for Western Star truck parts. The business earned BBB accreditation in 1995, reflecting its dedication to quality and customer trust.

In early 2025, Wayne initiated a thoughtful succession plan, preparing one of his sons, Wade Kelly, to take the helm. Effective October 2025, Wayne has retired, entrusting Wade and the experienced team to carry forward the legacy. Though retired, Wayne remains just a phone call or coffee visit away, offering his wealth of knowledge to support the next chapter - and may be seen still driving the tow truck here and there and talking about the good ol’ days.
